This week it was confirmed that our President Christy O Connor Senior is to be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Florida on November 2nd.

In his typical manner, Himself was modest as ever in his acceptance of this great honour and expressed his deepest thanks to those who considered him worthy to join a distinguished list such as Henry Cotton, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus among many other greats. He is just the second Irishman after Joe Carr to become a member.

Some at home would wonder why it has taken so long but the strict criteria would make it more difficult for a European golfer of his era to achieve such a great honour.
It makes his achievement of this week ever more incredible.

When the young man of 22 left his native Galway to become a golf professional in 1946, who would think that over 60 years later, the golf world is still in awe of a man who has represented his country with the utmost dignity and honour.

During his long career, Himself held many records and many firsts, but despite the great talent that exists within, he has always remained true to fellow man. An honest, honourable, modest real life Irish sporting Hero and living legend.

His advice on golf is always simple. Enjoy your game and keep it swinging.
